Positron emission tomography is a nuclear imaging technique that produces a 3D image of a functional processes in the body. The system detects gamma rays emitted indirectly by a tracer, which is introduced into the body on a biologically active molecule. 3D images of tracer concentrations within the body are then constructed by computer analysis.
